This paper addresses the political repression carried out in the CONICET (National Scientific and Technical Research Council) during the last military dictatorship in Argentina, as well as the first experience of repairing files of personnel who were killed or disappeared, which CONICET has recently initiated.
In addition to the bibliographic and documentary review, we conducted interviews with key informants and constructed a database with primary data on the victims of repression within the organization based on a detailed review of over 8,000 institutional resolutions between 1973 and 1984. The database reached a total of 2,843 cases, of which 78% corresponded to forced expulsions (mass resignations and requests for leave) and 21% to dismissals by the organization (dismissals, terminations, and other measures). The results obtained allow us to understand the impact of the dictatorship on the main Argentine scientific institution, something that had not been previously studied.
