This article is based on bibliographical (Stumpf, 2015) and documentary research (Moreira, 2015) and discusses how activism has been present in environmental journalism since its beginnings, in the last quarter of the 20th century. The opposition to environmental injustices made this journalistic perspective an engaged practice and, therefore, often overlooked by the field for breaking with the supposed objectivity or neutrality. Among the results, we point to a greater openness to the defense of nature, either because of the intensification of the climate crisis or because of the transformations that occur in the journalistic sphere, such as the appreciation of subjectivities.
