COVID-19 health surveillance in Brazil: seeking contacts in communities as a self-protection strategy

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To map the social interaction networks of the individual-individual and individual-space with COVID-19, understanding some of the social determinants of health (DSS). METHODS: Flowchart of territorial surveillance of COVID-19, addressing the search for flu syndrome, through the identification of the social relationships of the individual and the DSS. RESULTS: Two strategies can be evidenced: of an individual nature, in which each contact is identified and referred for a clinical investigation; and, a collective strategy, of health education, in which signs and symptoms will be informed and health care oriented, to identify the needs of each household. CONCLUSION: We believe that these actions can be a great advance in the health surveillance of COVID-19, since this approach considers transmission in the community and in its social spaces with the search for contacts, adequate guidance and health education will bring benefits to the affected people and the community in general.
