This theoretical essay aims to discuss and conceptually articulate Physical Education (PE) teaching presuppositions developed under the knowledge multidimensionality premise, connected with the perspective of a republican and democratic education. The text thematizes some aspects that can be considered decisive to realize this objective, emphasizing the multidimensionality of knowledge and the contents subdimensions, which constitute PE teaching background; educational praxis as a teaching perspective; teaching processes being accompanied by a communicative didactic; research as a pedagogical principle; and didactic-pedagogical process structuring in didactic units. It can be concluded that, even recognizing that the explained proposal may not solve considerable problems in the area, we understand that taking it seriously, including reflecting on the theoretical framework that underpins it, can constitute an interesting way to, at the same time broaden and deepen the debate about teaching PE in Brazilian public schools, from republican and democratic education perspective, finding alternatives for its implementation.
