The textual weaving corresponds to a theoretical essay, whose first version based the analyzes and discussions related to field experiences produced in qualitative research (SÁNCHEZ, 2020) in schools on the periphery of a Latin American metropolis. In walking through the text, we will be accompanied by the Epistemologies of the South, whose main ideas will give consistency to the argumentative thread, in relation to propositions about counter-hegemonic sciences, contemporary sciences, Latin American environmentalism, and the notion of ecology of knowledge, as well as to sciences teachings that can be anchored in these propositions. It advances in the understanding of scientific practice from the postulates of epistemological pragmatism and methodological pluralism, which would be complementary to educational perspectives inspired by critical interculturality and environmental education. Based on the above, nomenclatural updates are proposed in the field of science teaching, more consistent with emancipatory perspectives projected from Latin America.
