Therapeutic itineraries in mental health: experiences of users of a Psychosocial Care Center

The objective of the article is to analyze therapeutic itineraries taken by men and women to improving their mental health. A qualitative research was carried out, using life history interviews with users a Centro de Atenção Psicossocial (CAPS) in northeastern Brazil. The plurality of itineraries is made up of formal devices (specialized health services or not) and informal (family support, friends, work or creative activities, religiosity, leisure, empowerment strategies). Health system must offer comprehensive care, paying attention to gender, class and race social determinations and in line with the principles of the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform.
