This article is an excerpt from a thesis in development and aims to understand the possible relationships between Research as an educational principle and Mathematical Modeling. Therefore, a Systematic Literature Review was carried out in three national and international academic research dissemination databases, namely: Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations; Scientific Electronic Library Online and Google Scholar. The review based on certain descriptors and inclusion criteria resulted in 36 articles found. Analyzing the productions, it is understood that in an intervention with Mathematical Modeling, the search for content on websites of the World Wide Web, and the collection of data, are examples of the act of conducting research for students. In addition, interventions with Modeling develop students' ability to argue and investigate. There are only three articles that suggest possible relationships between the stages of Modeling and Research in the classroom.
