This essay consists of an evaluation of scientific journalism in Brazil, based on the author's previous analyzes and observation. On the one hand, there is greater interest from professionals in postgraduate courses and Fellowships, which unveil the intricacies of the production of scientific knowledge, and the long career of journalists who can serve as inspiration. On the other hand, there is a hesitation in seeking other approaches, deeper or more suited to the interests of readers, and a triumphalist view of the progress of scientific discoveries, because it is supported by inconsistent assumptions about the national system of science and technology. Greater interaction with readers and with researchers themselves could contribute to the improvement of reporting in this area.
