Abstract

The cause of recurrent aphthous stomatitis remains unknown, however, different causal factors have been found that could trigger this disease, among them, nutritional deficiencies of vitamins and minerals. In this systematic review (PROSPERO registry #CRD42021259412), we show that dietary supplements decrease the number of recurrent aphthous stomatitis episodes. The long-term efficacy of these supplements corroborates the role of these deficiencies in some patients, indicating that ulcer episodes could be prevented.
