Measures adopted to face the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus imposed changes in the routine and habits of a large part of the population. Most education institutions were closed, impacting the students and teachers in the world and highlighting the educational context. Based on the above, the present study aimed to reflect on the importance of socioemotional competences for the teacher’s role in the face of the pandemic. Based on a narrative review of the literature, we considered that the implementation of strategies based on socioemotional competences at this time can provide subsidies for coping with the effects of the pandemic in the school context, since they can assist teachers and students in conflict resolution and in overcoming challenges. They can also contribute to the development of innovative proposals, based on an empathetic and supportive attitude towards all the subjects involved.
