Abstract

This article investigates elements of the complex process of social construction of reality in subaltern subjects through an investigation carried out between 2018 and 2019. The objective is to analyze the most relevant mediations of the market vendors of the Feria Libre de La Ofelia, in Quito-Ecuador, for the construction of her senses about politics. They are popular vendors of different ethnicities (indigenous, montuvios and Afro-descendants) who come from different provinces, are working classes and mostly women. The methodology is based on the theory of multiple mediations, it is a descriptive and correlational investigation in which interviews, surveys and a discussion group were applied. The results included mediations due to structural and intersectional affectations, these are related to the political history of the country that has had several episodes of instability and social crisis, which in turn has presented challenges from citizens. In addition, there are the mediations of the media, the interactions of the market vendors at the public market and at home, as well as the mediations of their communities, their reaction to coloniality and their relationship with agriculture.
