Suicide is a major public health issue with a multifactorial etiology that requires a comprehensive approach capable of addressing its biopsychosocial determinants. This study investigated, through group interviews with 11 healthcare professionals from a small municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, how care is provided to individuals who have attempted suicide. Data were analyzed using Content Analysis, guided by the National Humanization Policy and the National Primary Health Care Policy. The findings revealed advances consistent with public health policies, but also identified weaknesses related to limited coordination among healthcare services, insufficient shared responsibility for patient care, and challenges in managing psychiatric emergencies. The study concludes that Matrix Support and Continuing Education initiatives are necessary to improve the quality of care, strengthen the integration of the healthcare network, and enhance the care provided to service users.
