This study offers a panoramic overview of the significance of a portion of Silviano Santiago’s work concerning the Black voice, art, subjectivity, wisdom, and body. While racial discrimination, prejudice, and racism—as well as the talent, culture, and literary language of Black authors—do not constitute the central focus of this intellectual’s research, they are nonetheless ever-present, in a reflective manner, throughout his writings. This discussion proves highly valuable for a broader understanding of the critic’s work, Brazil’s position within the world-system, and the unique nature of Black themes within the country’s society, culture, and artistic-literary creation.
