ESSAY ON THE INDIVIDUALIZATION OF RISKS UNDER CONDITIONS OF EXTREME DISAFFILIATION

Abstract

Given that disaffiliation represents a type of final stage of social vulnerability, is it still possible, in the contemporary context, to conceive of an extreme form of disaffiliation, resulting from the same neoliberal biopolitics that simultaneously renders marginalized populations socially invisible and economically functional? From this analytical perspective, the social remnants of the neoliberal society, either the homeless or the incarcerated population, illustrate the convergence between individualization of responsibility for social risks and the policy of privatizing services that were once monopolized by the State.
