BRASIL PARALELO AND THE MARIA DA PENHA CASE: AN ANALYSIS OF THE INVESTIGAÇÃO PARALELA SERIES AND AUDIOVISUAL DISINFORMATION

Abstract

The production company Brasil Paralelo produces the series Investigação Paralela, which discusses theories about high-profile real crimes, such as the Maria da Penha case. Based on mapping the profile of the company and the history of the case that culminated in Law No. 11.340/2006, this work starts from the hypothesis that the producer acts as a vector of disinformation that delegitimizes the victim and the very legislation for the protection of women, promoting a revisionist discourse that discredits the legal achievements obtained in the fight against gender-based violence. To support this argument, the concepts of "echo chambers" and "bubbles" (Santaella, 2019) and historiographical revision (Napolitano, 2021) serve as theoretical anchors, understanding documentaries as structured narratives that reinforce prejudices and pre-existing ideas in society, even when based on misinformation and manipulation
