Socioeducation research in Brazil: considerations from the First National Congress on Socio-Educational Measures

Abstract

This paper examines researches taken in Brazil about Socioeducation from the experience of the First National Congress of Research in Socio-educational measures (I CONAPEMES), figuring out the event as a production, circulation and socialization space of scientific knowledge. It aims to analyze the Congress contribution to socioeducation field strengthening, pinpointing the main thematic fields, theoretical-political perspectives and features of the scientific agenda. The research takes a qualitative approach in a documental nature, based on the final report of the I CONAPEMES, which gathers information about the event organization, its scientific schedule, the thematic axes, the papers submitted, the participants profile and reached results. The analysis shows that the Congress has assembled a scientific production defined by critical perspectives about socio-educational measures, emphasizing debates about human rights, pedagogical practices and race, class, gender and sexuality intersectionalities. Besides that, the event relied on 558 people participation from every region in Brazil, empowering the researchers' net and widening the scientific trade among researchers, students and workers. Therefore, the results indicate that CONAPEMES represents an important strengthening space of socio-educational research, playing a role in scientific field consolidation, also contributing to investigation agendas committed to human rights and a critical perspective of socioeducation.
