Reflections on transsexuality: Liniker’s performative body in an explosion within Brazilian popular music

Abstract

This study aims to reflect on transsexuality through the performative body of Brazilian singer Liniker. To this end, it adopts as its theoretical-methodological framework the theory of performativity developed by Austin (1987) and Ottoni (1998; 2012; 2022), combined with the conceptions of the performative body proposed by Pinto (2002; 2007) and Butler’s theories of gender and sexuality (1997; 1998; 2020). Reflections on the body in explosion go beyond the limits of sociological and philosophical discussions, since this body is traversed by language and constituted within it, drawing on critical contributions from postmodernity. In short, the study has theoretical, scientific, and social relevance because it seeks, through its analyses, to deconstruct patriarchy and structural machismo, which produce inequalities and suppress diverse identity expressions.
