Abstract

This paper aims to understand the existence of a Spatial Theory in the work of Milton Santos, emphasizing the articulation between the concepts of Place and Geographic Space. The theoretical-methodological procedure adopted consisted of a review of the Brazilian thinker’s works and the derived bibliography, with special attention to the ontological work The Nature of Space: Technique and Time, Reason and Emotion (1996). The study starts from the premise that, beyond the reflection on Geographic Space and Place, it is of an existential nature to consider studies on the phenomenon and ontology, traversed by the unconscious, recognizing them as essential analytical concepts for understanding the world and its objects, as articulated within the theoretical structure. The study concludes with the following future research question: how do Place, Geographic Space, and Planning intertwine in the constitution of Spatial Theory in Milton Santos?
