Temporal trend of notifications of work-related mental disorders and changes associated with the COVID-19 pandemic: an ecological time-series study in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil

Objective: To analyze the temporal trend of notifications of work-related mental disorders recorded in the Brazilian Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, between 2007 and 2023 and to assess changes associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: Ecological time-series study using secondary data from SINAN. Temporal trends were estimated using negative binomial regression with calculation of the Annual Percent Change (APC). Changes associated with the pandemic were assessed using interrupted time series analysis, considering 2020 as the interruption point. Statistical significance was set at 5%.
Results: A total of 745 notifications were recorded between 2007 and 2023. A significant increasing trend was observed (APC = +19.8% per year; 95%CI: +12.3% to +27.8%; p<0.001). Notifications showed an immediate and significant decline in 2020 (β = -1.320; p=0.014), followed by a gradual recovery, with no statistically significant change in the post-pandemic trend.
Conclusions: Notifications of work-related mental disorders increased during the study period. These findings reinforce the importance of strengthening Workers' Health Surveillance and improving health information systems to support evidence-based public policies aimed at preventing work-related mental disorders.
