Abstract

For many years, it was believed that Dinorá de Carvalho was born in 1905 or on June 1st, 1904. Flávio Carvalho's research helped to push back the year of her birth to 1895. These dates are reconsidered in this article, whose objectives are: to propose a new birth date for the composer; to contextualize some social dynamics of Uberaba-MG at the end of the 19th century; to present a possible year of her family's move to São Paulo-SP; to establish the date and year of enrollment at the São Paulo Dramatic and Musical Conservatory (CDMSP); and to deconstruct the narrative created by the composer about her birth date. The methodology employed was the analysis of the following documents: civil registration certificate, baptismal record, CDMSP enrollment form, periodicals, and a composer's autobiographical note. As a main result, it is concluded that Dinorá de Carvalho's birth date is March 3rd, 1895.

Vitor Alves de Mello Lopes, State University of Campinas (UNICAMP)

VITOR ALVES DE MELLO LOPES is a pianist, composer, researcher, and music editor. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Classical Piano and Musical Composition from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) and was a scholarship recipient from the Magda Tagliaferro Foundation between 2017 and 2018. Currently, he is pursuing a Master's degree in Music at the Institute of Arts at Unicamp, specializing in Music: Theory, Creation, and Practice, and within the research line of Music, Culture, and Society. His research focuses on the solo piano works of composer Dinorá de Carvalho, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Tadeu Moraes Taffarello.

Tadeu Moraes Taffarello, State University of Campinas (UNICAMP)

TADEU MORAES TAFFARELLO holds a doctorate, is a composer, and a music researcher. He completed his doctorate in music at Unicamp in 2010. As a composer, his work focuses on instrumental and vocal music. As a researcher, he has been working with the Center for Documentation of Contemporary Music (CDMC) at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) since 2015. His current research is in the area of music publishing, resulting in the publication by the CIDDIC-CDMC Collection of books of musical scores whose documentary sources are found in the CDMC collection. He is also a tenured professor in the postgraduate music program at the Institute of Arts at Unicamp, where he teaches courses and supervises master's and doctoral theses.

RAQUEL JULIANA PRADO LEITE DE SOUSA holds a doctorate in Education from UFSCar, with postdoctoral studies at the same institution. She has a degree in Social Communication - Journalism from UNESP, in Library Science and Information Science from UFSCar, and a full teaching degree in Portuguese Language from FIMI. She works as a librarian in the Contemporary Music Documentation Coordination (CDMC) of the Center for Integration, Documentation and Cultural Dissemination (CIDDIC) at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp).

LEONARDO THEON DE MORAES is a lawyer, graduated in Law from Mackenzie Presbyterian University (2012), registered with the Brazilian Bar Association, São Paulo Section (OAB/SP) (2012).
