Our goal is to analyze the ascetic priest in On the Genealogy of Morals, investigating his role in Nietzsche’s genealogical argument. We evaluate the hypothesis that the priest is the axis for a political horizon of genealogical argument, understood under the concept of great politics. As a way to demonstrate this hypothesis, we examine the relation between the priest and the concepts of resentment, guilt and asceticism, showing the “political” sense of this articulation. Our paper is divided into four sections. In the first one, we examine the notion of great politics. In the second one, we analyse the dual prehistory of values. In the third, we analyse the concept of guilt. Finally, we investigate the sense of asceticism.
