Brazil stands out in the international scenario due to the high performance of its agricultural sector, characterized by elevated productivity rates and significant participation in commodity exports. Despite this progress, agricultural activity remains associated with important occupational risks, highlighting the need to characterize the epidemiological profile of work-related accidents involving rural workers. The present study aims to systematize information obtained from official databases in order to analyze the distribution, magnitude, and characteristics of occupational accidents in Brazilian agriculture. It is observed that the rural population has remained relatively stable for decades and is predominantly composed of workers with low levels of formal education, a factor that may influence risk perception and the prevention of occupational hazards. Although accident rates are still considered high, a downward trend has been observed in recent years. The state of São Paulo accounts for a significant share of national records, with the sugarcane and citrus cultivation sectors standing out as the main contributors to accident occurrences. These activities account for more than 50% of the records at the state level and contribute approximately 30% of cases nationwide. The most frequent injuries involve the lower and upper limbs, as well as soft tissue trauma, dorsal region injuries, and cases of contamination. It is concluded that, despite the productive advances of Brazilian agribusiness, challenges related to rural worker safety and health persist, requiring more effective public policies and preventive strategies.
