In a highly evolved and developed world, where professionals seek greater knowledge and understanding of advanced surgeries and technologies, fundamental concepts have become distant, hindering accurate periodontal diagnosis. Therefore, using a step-by-step clinical and radiographic periodontal evaluation protocol can facilitate accurate diagnosis. This editorial presents the Periodontal Evaluation Protocol (GF-PAPro), developed based on the most comprehensive scientific literature, to guide clinicians and experts in standardized clinical periodontal evaluations. GF-PAPro is based on 14 parameters to achieve a precise and accurate clinical assessment and diagnosis: (1) number of remaining teeth, (2) plaque and calculus detection, (3) gingival assessment, (4) probing depth (PD) measurement, (5) clinical attachment level, (6) bone loss pattern, (7) gingival recession, (8) furcation involvement, (9) tooth mobility, (10) radiographs, (11) extent and distribution, (12) occlusal analysis, (13) peri-implant condition, and (14) need for complex rehabilitation. GF-PAPro can be used daily, making it easy to recall each clinical step. Furthermore, it allows for the establishment of a periodontal/peri-implant diagnosis, classifying the disease by severity, complexity, extent, and distribution (stage and grade), and analyzing all the parameters recommended by the latest periodontal guidelines (2018), which include clinical and radiographic parameters.
