The curricular structure of the current Brazilian High School has undergone profound changes over the past ten years. Through a bibliographic-documentary research approach, this study aims to situate Physical Education (PE) within the high school curriculum offered by public schools in the state of Espírito Santo. The results point to a reduction in the space allocated to PE, as well as to the influence of neoliberal logic on the curriculum, on student education, and on teachers’ working conditions. Understanding the place of PE in the current curricular configuration of high school education in Espírito Santo is an important step toward fostering debates within the field, particularly those dedicated to reflecting on the role occupied by the subject in light of recent legal changes.
