This article presents the results of a Scoping Review (ScR) of academic literature addressing the relationship between Economic Instruments (EIs) of environmental policy and the promotion of Agroforestry Systems (AFS) in Brazil. Following the methodology recommended by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), the search was conducted in Scopus, Web of Science, and the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD), with no restrictions on language or publication period. A total of 23 studies were included, encompassing different types of instruments and agroforestry configurations, with emphasis on Payment for Environmental Services (PES) and biodiverse systems. Results were organized into four analytical categories: type of study, type of AFS, EIs, and biome. The analysis revealed that, although biodiverse AFS are widely recognized for their ecological and productive potential, the economic instruments examined remain limited in scope and responsiveness to the complexity of these systems. This article contributes by identifying conceptual, territorial, and institutional gaps in the design and evaluation of these instruments, thereby advancing the field of research on environmental financing applied to AFS in Brazil.
