Abstract

The present study focuses on a comparative analysis of the nonlinear seismic behavior of a reinforced concrete building with elastic bases and the NTP E.030 model. in the city of Moquegua with the intention of comparing the results of the nonlinear seismicanalysis and measuring the influence with respect to the rigid base model; For this, I consider as a sample a 5-level building with a structural system mainly of reinforced concrete frames with a combined footing foundation sitting on an S2 soil. The methodology used in this study is applied, non-experimental and descriptive. Comparative studies between the Peruvian technical standard NTP E.030 and the analysis with elastic bases reveal significant discrepancies in several key aspects of the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete structures. Firstly, the vibration periods show substantial increases with the use of elastic bases, indicating longer periods in the three main vibration modes, which directly influences the dynamic behavior and seismic response of the building. Structural displacements also differ notably, with significant increases in both directions (X and Y) when the analysis with elastic bases is applied, highlighting increases of up to 512% in certain locations. Furthermore, the shear forcesand bending moments exhibit considerable variations, showing both increases and decreases depending on the direction and location in the structure. On the other hand, nonlinear analysis of buildings reveals much larger displacements and loads compared to the NTP E.030 standard, underscoring the need for advanced methodologies to accurately evaluate structural behavior against severe seismic loads. These findings reinforce the importance of updating seismic design regulations to include more sophisticated approaches that can optimize the structural safety and resilience of buildings in seismically active areas.
