Abstract

Introduction: Process modeling involves identifying, analyzing, and proposing improvements to organizational workflows to enhance institutional efficiency and effectiveness. One such application was implemented through the extension project "BPM Acadêmico: mapping and modeling processes," developed at the School of Information Science (ECI) of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) between October 2017 and December 2019. Objective: This paper presents the formalization of the BPM Acadêmico methodology, designed within the scope of this project, with the aim of enabling its application in other institutions. Methodology: This is a documentary research study with a qualitative approach, based on the principles of reverse engineering, supported by the 5W2H method and the guidelines of the PMBOK framework. Results: The main outcome is the BPM Acadêmico methodology, structured in seven stages and aligned with project management practices, with strong potential for replication in both public and private institutions. Conclusions: Its modular structure, operational simplicity, and conceptual robustness make the methodology suitable for diverse institutional contexts, particularly those with low maturity in process.
