This paper analyzed the feasibility of using solar pumping systems with photovoltaic panels in isolated agricultural areas such as the district of La Joya, Arequipa. Information was collected on current problems in irrigation management, such as the inefficiency of traditional systems, landslides caused by over irrigation, and groundwater contamination. Studies on sustainable technologies such as photovoltaic water pumping systems, their efficiency and applicability in rural contexts were also reviewed. This review allows assessing the potential of these technologies as a renewable and economical alternative to improve access to irrigation in areas where electrification is difficult.
