Abstract

Ableism is structured in social systems and has the power to dictate ways of being and living. It is socially sustained by an attempt to unify standards of normality and beauty and by an imposed division between people who do and do not fit into these parameters. The research was conducted through individual and collective interviews with university students with disabilities from a federal university and sought to identify more or less evident messages of ableism in the social relations established in educational inclusion. The research highlighted significant difficulties in accessibility and inclusion, knowledge and awareness of differences, which make it difficult for students to remain in university.
