Abstract

Objective: To quantify the effect of parallax and image magnification in pelvic radiographs and evaluate their influence on medical management. Compare
epidemiological data found with the literature. Methods: Descriptive-quantitative and prospective study. Radiographs with opaque material measuring 2.7 cm in diameter and computed tomography scans of the pelvis will be evaluated in patients with fractures of the same with opening of the pubic symphysis. The values obtained will be used to calculate the image distortions caused. Results: Image exams of 16 patients were analyzed with an average magnification of 116. The difference between the average pubic symphysis opening measurements between radiography and computed axial tomography exams is. Conclusion: Computed Tomography is essential in the initial evaluation of patients with suspected pelvic injury to avoid overestimating injuries and offering unnecessary procedures due to imaging effects. Keywords: Radiography; Optical illusions, Orthopedics; Image enlargement, Hip Fractures. Level of evidence III - Investigation of a diagnostic test. Descriptive-quantitative and prospective study.
