FLU-LIKE SYNDROME SUGGESTIVE OF COVID-19 IN MEN WHO DO SEX WHIT MEN AND GOT INVOLVED IN CASUAL SEX

Abstract

Objective: To assess the presence of flu-like syndrome suggestive of Covid-19 in men who do sex with men (MSM) who got involved in sex with casual partner during period of social distancing. Method: Behavioral survey, nationwide applied in April and May 2020, by adapting the Respondent Drive Sampling. Results: 1,337 MSM participated in the survey, of which 514 (38.4%) had fever associated with another signs or symptoms of flu syndrome. Social and demographic characteristics, sexual practices and activities during the period of social distancing were statically associated with the presence of flu syndrome. There was statistical difference (p <0.001) in the average partners between those who had signs and symptoms of flu syndrome (3.5) and those who did not (1.7). Conclusion: Our findings point to the occurrence of signs and symptoms indicative of a flu-like syndrome suggestive of Covid-19 in Brazilian MSM who engaged in casual sex during the period of sheltering in place.
