Abstract

This study addresses the management of construction and demolition waste (CDW) in Piura, Peru, and proposes
the use of recycled aggregates in concrete as a sustainable solution. The main objective is to evaluate the impact of
recycled aggregates on the strength and durability of concrete in the region, in alignment with Sustainable
Development Goals (SDG) 11, 12 and 9, which promote urban sustainability, responsible consumption and innovation
in infrastructure. Specific objectives include obtaining recycled aggregates from local waste, comparing the
mechanical properties of concrete with recycled aggregates versus conventional concrete, and evaluating the water
absorption and specific gravity of these aggregates. The study used a quantitative experimental design, performing
compression tests at 7, 14 and 28 days on a total of 27 specimens distributed in three groups. The results at 28 days
demonstrated that the concrete design with recycled aggregates from concrete waste achieved strengths
comparable to conventional concrete, with strength values between 268.8 kg/cm2 and 281.5 kg/cm2, which is
considered suitable for structural applications. On the other hand, the design with 50% glass waste presented
slightly lower resistances, reaching up to 227.2 kg/cm2. These findings support the technical and environmental
viability of the use of RCD in concrete, proposing a sustainable alternative in the construction industry in Piura.
