This paper analyses the appropriative mimetic conflict used during the electoral process in symbolic discourses aimed at achieving the position of mayor of the municipality of Balsas/MA (Brazil). The research applies mimetic and discourse genre theory to the candidates' political speeches, which reveal disputes over authority, control or protagonism in which different groups compete to legitimise their viewpoints, disseminated on social networks during the municipal elections. The speeches are interpreted from a phenomenological perspective of appropriative mimetic conflict and the results reveal an appeal to the media projection of digital influencers, deconstruction of the opposing candidate's image, appropriation of the sacred and manipulation of public opinion using appropriative mimetic narratives. The conclusion is that it is crucial to foster a space for dialogue, empathy and understanding, allowing differences to be addressed constructively, rather than being transformed into destructive rivalries.
