Abstract

The purpose of this article is to reiterate the main current and updated knowledge about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), especially with regard to its impact on the lives of girls and women based on recent scientific production. Mainly, based on the repertoire of Feminist Critical Theory, highlight the presence of women in the unique condition of autism in the arts as a matrix of perception and expression about the world that surrounds them and of which they are a part. Considering the scarcity of published material in the form of books and scientific articles on the presence of women in the condition of autism in the arts, the life stories of artists with autism, Carolina Mamedes da Cruz, Letícia Brasil and Nadia Chomyn, available on various websites, social networks and personal blogs, were selected. Taking into account the social stigma and ableism that “autistic people have no feelings” and/or have “little imaginative capacity”, it was highlighted, as the title of this text indicates, intensity and sensitivity as recognized human attributes and capacities pertinent to artistic protagonism, therefore, qualities present in women with autism who are artists. Finally, it is concluded that art is one of the most beautiful forms of expression of human manifestation, so that autism should not be a reason for astonishment, but a condition that must be respected and that constitutes the lives of female artists who experience it and who share their compositions with the world.
