Legal advances in child and adolescent care in Brazil, based on the integral protection paradigm, contrast with persistent issues within the socio-educational system. This study aimed to analyze the current state of research and scientific publications regarding the teacher's role in the socioeducational context. An integrative literature review was conducted, combining descriptors in the Scielo, BVS, and Portal CAPES databases. After selection and analysis, 17 articles were included, classified into three main categories: teacher training and preparation, key challenges faced, and strategies and resources for effective teaching. The results reveal a recent increase in publications on the topic, involving a diverse range of authors and journals; a preference for qualitative research designs, particularly interviews and focus groups; and most studies focusing on juvenile detention measure. In comparison to legal prerogatives, the main challenges include the development of specific policies, adequate working conditions, and initial and ongoing teacher training. Meanwhile, the current potentials of teaching in realizing education as a mechanism for social (re)integration and in the development of innovative pedagogical practices tailored to the socio-educational context.
