SciELO Preprints adopts mandatory of research data availability statement
Starting September 1st, 2025, the SciELO Preprints server will implement a new policy that makes it mandatory to make the data underlying the research submitted to the platform available. This measure represents a significant advance in the SciELO network's commitment to the principles of open science and scientific transparency.
The new requirement is in line with the guidelines established in the statement “Modus operandi of open science in the SciELO ecosystem from 2025,” (in Portuguese) which outlines the network's strategies and commitments to strengthen transparent and accessible research practices.
As of September 1st, 2025, manuscripts submitted to SciELO Preprints must include:
- Data availability statement: Clear information on where and how the research data that gave rise to the article can be accessed.
To facilitate compliance with the new requirements, authors can use the suggested template for article submission provided by the platform, which offers clear guidelines on how to properly structure this section of the manuscript. This policy promotes:
- Greater transparency in research processes.
- Facilitates the reproducibility of scientific studies.
- Accelerates scientific progress through data sharing.
- Strengthens confidence in scientific communication.
This initiative reaffirms SciELO's pioneering role in promoting open science and positions the platform at the forefront of international best practices in scientific communication.
