A successful example of generative artificial intelligence (AI) based on large language models (LLMs) for the academic research universe is ChatGPT. Tools derived from its model assist a series of activities or tasks ranging from the conception of research, through literature review, analysis and even the writing of articles and publication in scientific journals. At the same time that we are faced with the enormous success of ChatGPT, for its innovative potential for academia, researchers are still trying to know, apply and understand its implications and limitations of use for academic research. This work fills the need for practical advice on the use of AI to conduct academic research, in particular to support literature review work.
