Translation analysis of three conversation markers in peninsular Spanish (bueno, pues, vamos) through subtitling into Italian of the TV series «Las chicas del cable»

Abstract

This paper considers the translational treatment of some conversational markers in peninsular Spanish, namely, bueno, pues, vamos, through subtitling from Spanish into Italian of the first season of the Spanish series «Las chicas del cable» (2017), produced and broadcast on Netflix. From the transcriptions of the original version and of the Italian subtitled version, all the cases relating to the conversation markers have been identified and then their correspondence in Italian has been detected. Once these operations have been carried out, we have adopted the classification of translation procedures by Gottlieb (1992, p. 166-168) in order to systematise with a qualitative approach the results obtained and to analyse the changes taking place in subtitling from Spanish into Italian.
