This article aims to base the social problems of science on the development of emotional competences in university authorities. It is a reflection of the necessity of including training plans on competencies, both, intrapersonal (self-knowledge, self-control, self-motivation) and social skills (empathy and relationship management, teamwork, conflict negotiation) for university authorities. Increasingly, success in directing substantive processes in Cuban Higher Education is related to the development of these competencies to respond the demands of complex educational settings in which scientific and academic authorities have an essential role. Theoretical level methods such as analytical-synthetic, induction-deduction, historical-logical and documentary analysis ere used. The results highlighted the need to design and implement a methodology for the development of emotional competencies in university authorities according to the demands of higher education.
