This article aims to determine the treatment of Covid-19 in the editorials of the newspapers El Comercio and El Universo. A mixed methodology (qualitative and quantitative) was used; documentary review and critical discourse analysis of 60 journalistic texts published between February and July 2020 were used as techniques. The results showed that health, economy, society, and restrictive measures prevailed in the media's opinion. The discursive environment, the use of language, and the morphology of the discourse served to alert the public opinion about the spread of the virus and its effects, but, at the same time, highlighted the scenarios of power, domination, inequality, and social problems, which translate into weaknesses of the Ecuadorian people.
